Corn syrup past the expiration date
Best-by and sell-by
FoodKeeper gives unopened corn syrup 3 years in the pantry, counted from the day you buy it. "Best-by" and "sell-by" describe quality and stock rotation, not safety; only infant formula carries a federally required use-by date.
Past the date
Corn syrup past its best-by date is usually safe if stored well; check smell, look and taste before using.
How to keep corn syrup fresh longer
- Keep tightly covered; refrigerate to extend storage life.
- Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark, dry place.
- Keep away from the stove and dishwasher, where heat and humidity speed spoilage.
